Group claims signatures to force Mich. bridge vote

DETROIT (AP) — A group that wants Michigan voters to sign off on any future border crossings to Canada announced Thursday that it had collected enough signatures to put the measure on the November ballot.

Mickey Blashfield, director of a committee that calls itself The People Should Decide, said the group had obtained more than 420,000 signatures — far exceeding the 322,609 valid signatures required to put the question on the ballot. Petitions will continue to be circulated statewide before the July 9 deadline, he said.
