MARC backing down from proposed schedule change timing

Maryland officials are backing off a planned start date to change service on one of MARC’s three commuter train lines after riders and local officials complained about the cuts and petitioned for more public input.

MARC officials had proposed changing the service on the Brunswick Line, which runs from Martinsburg, W.Va., to Union Station, to increase reliability and the overall speed of the service starting Jan. 30.

“We have always been open to adjusting the launch of the new schedule and it appears the date will change,” MARC spokesman John Wesley said.

The agency’s riders advisory group had cried foul after the initial proposal, saying the changes equaled service cuts, not minor schedule adjustments.
