Children’s author Jon Scieszka learned an important lesson while researching his well-known book: Three and 4-year olds are crazy.
“I want to … remember how their brains work,” said Scieszka, author of “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales.”
“They’re like Alzheimer’s patients on acid,” he said.
Scieszka talked humor Tuesday at the Library of Congress and explained that he grew up using humor to goof off or as a defense mechanism.
“I could get out of things by making jokes or deflecting the attention long enough to grab the chicken and leave brothers three, four and five laughing,” he said.
Scieszka is working on “Robot Zot,” about an alien robot trying to conquer the world.
“He’s kind of Don Quixote if he were from a different planet, a robot and three inches tall,” Scieszka said. “He fights the toaster and vacuum cleaner never realizing he’s this tall.”
