Police identify 6-year-old boy who died after accidental shooting

Prince George’s County Police have identified a 6-year-old boy who died after he accidentally shot himself Monday.

Police found Amari Markel-Purrel Perkins in a bedroom at a home in the 6000 block of Arbutus Lane in Clinton. He was taken to Children’s National Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Perkins is believed to have found a gun in a backpack. Twenty-year-old Raymond Allen Brown, a resident of the home who brought a handgun there, has been charged with reckless endangerment and firearms – access by minors, police said.

The gun’s ownership is under investigation.
