The opening of the new Hilton Baltimore Convention Center Hotel in Baltimore has added 460 new jobs to the city.
“When 78 percent of the hotel’s workers are from Baltimore, we’re helping Baltimore City neighborhoods,” Gov. Martin O’Malley said at Friday’s grand opening ceremony.
Executives from Hilton presented a check for $200,000 to the CollegeBound Foundation, with a portion contributed to the National Academy Foundation’s establishment of the Hilton Baltimore Convention Center Hotel Scholarship Fund. Over the next 15 years, Hilton has committed to donating a total of $3 million to the fund.
To commemorate the hotel’s opening, Julia Ruth Stevens, the 92-year-old daughter of Babe Ruth, attended the ceremony and signed in as the hotel’s first official guest. The Babe was born only a few blocks away.
