Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is considering running for Congress, according to multiple reports.
New York Democrats in the state Legislature on Wednesday passed a new congressional map for the Empire State that could cut up to four Republicans from its congressional delegation. Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to sign the map into law in the coming days.
The new maps also change the House district where de Blasio’s Brooklyn address lies. He’s been moved from a district represented by Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke, a political ally, to a district currently represented by GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.

The lines of Malliotakis’s district were shifted to benefit Democrats, still covering all of Staten Island but also taking in more liberal precincts of Brooklyn. Former Democratic Rep. Max Rose is running for a rematch with Malliotakis should he win a June primary.
Malliotakis defeated Rose in 2020, removing him from office after a single, two-year term. In a statement, Malliotakis said she would run for reelection despite the new lines and called the redistricting “a blatant attempt by the Democrat leadership in Albany to steal this seat, even after New Yorkers voted twice by ballot referendum for non-partisan maps.”
Though de Blasio reportedly wouldn’t challenge his ally Clark, he has no such compunctions about Rose, who once ran a campaign ad attacking de Blasio’s job performance as mayor.
“Bill de Blasio is the worst mayor in the history of New York City,” Rose said in the ad. “That’s it, guys.”

The former mayor has reportedly not yet finalized plans for his political future since he left office on Dec. 31. He weighed a run for governor before deciding against it.
