Contact senators, scream NO!

Come on, senators, stand up for Maryland. You can save us from Gov. Martin O?Malley?s $1.5 billion sneak-a-tax plan today (unless he slipped it to us in the dark of night).

Now is the time for citizens to SCREAM at their senators about this bogus tax plan, the largest single tax increase in Maryland history.

Why? Because we just found out Thursday that, guess what? Contrary to O?Malley?s smooth lie when he called the special session and said that 83 percent of us would pay less, almost all of us will end up paying more.

This is the standard fast-shuffle politicians of all parties at all levels of government play. We can?t let them get away with it. Now is the time to tell those who represent us that we are angry at being tricked and taxed.

Now is the rare moment when, with only four more senators coming to their senses and doing the right thing, a stake could be driven through the heart of O?Malley?s vampire.

If we don?t strike hard now, stopping the monster once it is loose in the General Assembly will be impossible.

Baltimore County Democrat Jim Brochin is a hero forputting high principle ahead of petty partisan politics. He pledged to join Senate Republicans in a filibuster today if the Democratic Party cartel gives them the chance.

He only needs four more senators to show the same courage and dedication to the people of Maryland. Being a loyal Democrat does not mean being a sap.

The Senate Budget and Taxation Committee diddled around with the proposed tax bill before quietly sliming it out onto the Senate floor for a full vote. In the process, they put their hands in the pockets of unsuspecting citizens and businesses.

Tax hikers hope few of us will have time to say anything about it.

That is bothering the consciences of even those senators inured to the usual maneuvers within their august body. This one is just too nasty and underhanded for some of them to stomach.

For one thing, they know the whole “structural deficit” is phony, as is the hysteria-driven unconstitutional special session O?Malley called to raise taxes.

And they know O?Malley?s announced draconian “cuts” in state services are nothing more than a scare tactic.

Fact No. 1: The budget is balanced through at least July 2008.

Fact No. 2: The “structural deficit” after that is based on projected spending INCREASES above and beyond any inflationary justification.

And, most importantly, Fact No. 3: O?Malley?s cuts certainly will not extend to slopping the public trough for his cronies. Just sort through the campaign-prop shambles he left behind in Baltimore City as reality begins to rot through the facade.

The prime example of how generous he can be with other people?s money when cronies “Get In On It” is the illegal $2 million lifetime city pension he scammed for former Baltimore Deputy Police Commissioner Marcus Brown after he appointed him head of the Maryland Transportation Authority police. That tells you how he?ll squander money he squeezes out of us.

Our senators must stop the tax hikes now. Surely at least four of them have the courage to do the right thing.

To help them find that strength, citizens should contact them and simply say: FILIBUSTER!
