CNN moves GOP’s Sarah Isgur to political analysis after backlash over her conservatism

Former Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur will be brought on by CNN as a political analyst after originally being hired as part of the company’s editorial team.

Isgur, a Republican operative who served as the deputy campaign manager of Carly Fiorina’s 2016 presidential campaign, was hired by CNN as a politics editor in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election cycle.

Her hire to the editorial team came under scrutiny given her background in Republican politics. But Isgur had an apparent change of heart.

“We can confirm that when Sarah came to us and proposed her role be adjusted to a political analyst instead, we agreed and we look forward to her starting in that role,” a CNN representative told the Washington Examiner.

Isgur announced Friday on Twitter that her role had been switched from politics editor to political analyst. “It’s been a great vacation but I am back on twitter! And news: I will go to CNN as a Political Analyst instead. Will start next month on air and on line. See y’all soon,” Isgur tweeted.

The cable news network received a lot of backlash over her hiring as an editor, as journalists and others both inside and outside the organization pointed to the move as an example of the “revolving door” between politics and journalism and Isgur’s lack of professional background in journalism.
