A drug suspect stuck two Baltimore City police officers Wednesday with his sport utility vehicle as they attempted to arrest the man.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m. two police officers were attempting to arrest a drug suspect in the 900 block of East 33rd Street in Baltimore, police said.
The suspect was in an Infiniti SUV and struck the officers in an attempt to escape, said Sterling Clifford, a Baltimore police spokesman.
Steve Mahan, 37, a 12-year veteran of the force, sustained a serious injury to his left leg that requires surgery.
Clifford said Mahan was undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
The other officer, Gus Passamichalis, 42, a 16-year veteran, has a less serious injury to his right leg.
Police have recovered the vehicle that struck the officers. The suspect, however, was still on the loose as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.
