The Biden administration is going all-in on the legitimacy of physically mutilating and chemically poisoning children who suffer from gender dysphoria.
In a recent hearing, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado asked President Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, a largely invisible figure in his position so far, whether he supports “HHS’s funding being [used for] sex-reassignment surgeries on minors.” Becerra confirmed he does. Biden has recently thrown the entire executive branch behind “affirming your child’s identity” as “one of the most powerful things you can do to keep them safe and healthy.”

To put it in plain language, the Biden administration supports hormone treatments, puberty blockers, and surgery for children who show signs of wanting to be the opposite gender. The Biden administration supports sending young children who are too young to know better down an irreversible path that even many adults deeply regret later on, all to satisfy an unscientific gender ideology that is sweeping his party’s rank and file.
Children typically grow out of gender dysphoria if given the chance. What’s more, the physical and chemical alterations that Biden and Becerra support often lead to serious medical issues, including increased risks of stroke and cancer. But the Biden administration isn’t just supporting these “gender affirmations” — Biden’s Justice Department is actually threatening to sue states that protect children from being irreversibly mutilated.
This is not compassion. It does not keep children “safe and healthy.” There are real, dangerous consequences to these irreversible procedures. Some misguided parents think they are helping their gender dysphoric children by putting them through such abuse, but this is part of the reason there are laws and state agencies dedicated to protecting children even from their own parents.
Biden is throwing the entire weight of the federal executive branch behind this damaging idea, complete with irresponsible guidance from Becerra and legal threats from his Department of Justice.
But these are the kind of debates Becerra was selected for. He’s a career politician with no background in public health or medicine. The Biden administration does not care about the health effects these procedures have. It cares about the politics of “acceptance” and “affirmation,” no matter how many children are permanently harmed. He cares only about satisfying whatever demands gay and transgender activists put upon his administration.
Irreversible surgeries and puberty blockers are not the answer for gender dysphoric children. By pushing for these harmful measures, Biden and Becerra are being incredibly irresponsible in the name of supposed tolerance. This is what the Democratic Party has become, and no amount of performative compassion will excuse it.
