Montgomery County police are searching for a woman who entered two CVS stores in Montgomery County early Saturday morning, displayed a semiautomatic handgun and demanded cash from store employees.

The same woman is also believed to have entered a nearby 7-Eleven, police said, but was deterred by store employees phoning police.

Police gave the following account:

The first hold-up took place just before 4:07 a.m. at a 24-hour CVS store at 3715 University Blvd. West in Kensington. Investigators said a black woman entered the store wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. She was described as being about 30 years old, weighing more than 250 pounds and having a light complexion and short hair. The woman fled on foot after taking an undisclosed amount of money at gunpoint.

Police warned other stores in the area, including a CVS at 12359 Georgia Ave. in Glenmont. The woman robbed that store at about 5:17 a.m., police said. She fled north on Layhill Road in a silver-gray station wagon, but not before backing into and snapping a handicap parking sign.

The suspect then entered a 7-Eleven in Olney, police said, where employees had been warned by an officer about the thefts and called police. The woman fled in a Toyota with a male suspect.

Montgomery County police said Monday that the investigation was ongoing.
