An armed man walked into a New York Police Department precinct and shot an officer, just hours after two other officers from the same precinct were attacked.
A suspect was detained near NYPD’s 41st precinct building on Sunday morning after he opened fire, shooting a lieutenant officer in the arm. Authorities believe the suspect might have been responsible for or connected to another attack that occurred on Saturday night, in which two officers were ambushed in their patrol van.
A bullet grazed the cheek and neck of the officer in the driver’s seat, but both officers avoided life-threatening injuries. Authorities described the Saturday night attack as an “attempted assassination.” Surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the suspect dressed in all black with blue jeans. At one point, the man can be seen holding his firearm. He was described as a 20-to-30-year-old man and is approximately 5’7″.
Authorities asked for the public’s help with identifying the suspect in the Saturday night shooting.
“The @nypd is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the male depicted in these photos for questioning in regard to the shooting of a NYPD Police Officer in the area of Simpson Street and Barreto Street in the Bronx,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison.
