Boy, 12, charged with sexual battery

A 12-year-old boy has been charged with sexual battery after allegedly grabbing a woman in a Manassas grocery store.

Prince William County police say the boy “inappropriately touched” the 36-year-old woman twice while in the store on the 8300 block of Sudley Road. The first time, the woman walked away, but after he touched her a second time, the woman alerted authorities.

The boy was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center.

Man charged in Blue Ridge Parkway shootings

A 56-year-old mechanic has been charged with attempted capital murder after police say he shot two people at a scenic overlook on the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway. Ralph Leon Jackson was arrested after police received a tip linking him to Monday’s shooting in Augusta County, authorities said. Timothy Davis, 27, and 18-year-old Christina Floyd were shot from behind by a shotgun as they sat on a wall. Davis is in critical condition, Floyd is in fair condition and police are trying to determine what prompted the shootings. Police said they recovered a shotgun from Jackson’s house.

Police search for racist vandalism suspect

U.S. Park Police have issued a warrant for a 50-year-old man they say is responsible for racist graffiti at various parks in the Washington area. Ronald Edward Bost Jr. is accused of tagging racist imagery and epithets on park property in Washington and along the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Bost has tattoos, including faded swastikas on his knuckles.

Crime drops in Arlington County

Police say Arlington County crime dropped 3.7 percent in 2009, with violent crime dropping 8.3 percent. The biggest decrease was an 18 percent reduction in burglaries in 2009 from 2008. But the county also recorded fewer homicides, rapes, robberies and assaults than 2008.
