President Trump escalated his criticism of the British ambassador to the U.S., calling Kim Darroch “wacky” and “a pompous fool.”
Trump’s name-calling followed a threat to ice out Darroch from working with his administration after leaked diplomatic cables showed the ambassador called Trump “inept” and “incompetent.”
“The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool.”
…handled. I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster! I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool. Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far…

Trump claimed a day earlier Darroch was “not liked or well-thought of within the U.S.,” but several members of his administration socialized with the ambassador, including Kellyanne Conway and Sarah Sanders.
Darroch has been in the post since January 2016 and was expected to leave Washington, D.C., at the end of the year, though his departure could be sped up given the unflattering comments.
On Monday, Darroch was reportedly disinvited from attending a dinner hosted by Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to honor the emir of Qatar.
