Model Karlie Kloss said her connection to President Trump through marriage has taken a toll.
Kloss, 26, married 34-year-old Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Ivanka Trump’s husband Jared Kushner, last year. The two have been in a relationship since Kloss was 19.
“It’s been hard,” she told British Vogue. “But I choose to focus on the values that I share with my husband, and those are the same liberal values that I was raised with and that have guided me throughout my life.”
Kloss openly supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, captioning an Instagram photo of herself filling out her ballot #ImWithHer. Josh Kushner did not vote for Trump, according to Forbes.
The couple attended the Women’s March on Washington in 2017 and the March for our Lives rally for gun control in 2018.
Despite their attempts to distance themselves from the Trumps, Ivanka has been publicly supportive of her sister-in-law on social media.
“So, so happy for you and Josh!” Ivanka wrote in an Instagram comment after the two became engaged. “I feel blessed to have you as a sister (!!!) Karlie and look forward to the decades of happy memories we will create together as a family!”
Ivanka also shared her excitement about Kloss’ role hosting Project Runway during the premiere earlier this year via Instagram Stories.
Kloss does not follow her sister-in-law on Instagram.
