‘Sex’ star Cynthia Nixon would give illegal immigrants free college, ban ICE

Sex and the City” star and New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon has unveiled a $7 billion education plan that would give illegal immigrants free college tuition and bar federal immigration police from schools.

In announcing her new plan in her bid to unseat Gov. Andrew Cuomo in an upcoming Democratic primary, she tweeted, “And while Andrew Cuomo specifically excluded DREAMers from his tuition program, they will be fully eligible under ‘College for All,’ as will all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status—because DREAMers are New Yorkers and DREAMers are Americans.”

It was one of 25 tweets she blasted out over 25 minutes Wednesday morning.

In another, she added, “We will end suspensions for children in grades Pre-K to 3, dramatically reduce suspensions for all students, and work to eliminate school-based arrests. Neither will we will allow ICE into our schools to deport our students or their families. We will create #SchoolsNotJails.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not enter schools to snoop for criminals. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos raised eyebrows recently when she said that it is up to schools to decide if they want to report undocumented immigrants in their student population.

A new poll from Siena College released Wednesday had Cuomo with a 35-point advantage among likely voters over Nixon, 61 percent to 26 percent. The primary is in September.
