Howard County police nabbed eight drivers this past weekend at a sobriety checkpoint in Columbia. The drivers were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Another driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license, police said.
More than 1,100 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Little Patuxent Parkway at Vantage Point Road, police said.
The checkpoint was staffed by Howard County police, and members of the Howard chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving provided assistance.
