A Russian news station has aired footage of the Syria’s Shayrat air base following the cruise missile strike ordered by President Trump on Thursday.
The footage, aired on Russia’s Rossiya 24 channel, shows reinforced aircraft hangars that took direct hits from some of the 59 Tomahawk cruise missile strikes launched from two U.S. Navy warships in the eastern Mediterranean Thursday night Washington time.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that only six MiG-23 aircraft were destroyed by the strikes and that the runway is intact. U.S. officials, however, say about 20 Syrian planes were destroyed.
The Pentagon says the air base was the launching point for chemical weapons attacks on civilians this week in Idlib, and the strikes targeted aircraft, hangars and fueling points.
