CNN’s Brian Stelter slammed President Trump Sunday for criticizing the media while praising the U.S. Coast Guard for its Hurricane Harvey rescue operations, calling his comments “wrong and petty.”
“In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, there have been so many heroic stories to tell,” Stelter said on his program, “Reliable Sources.” “Stories of first responders, volunteers and in some cases journalists who jumped in to rescue those in harm’s way.”
Stelter listed examples of reporters helping victims of the record-breaking weather event “just because they happened to be there and they could help.”
That’s what made Trump’s comment at a press opportunity with the Coast Guard in Houston “so weird” and “really strange,” Stelter continued.
“He had a lot yesterday to say in both Texas and Louisiana, he was touring the areas affected by the flooding and he’s received a lot of praise for doing so,” Stelter added.
Stelter then rolled a video clip of Trump saying the Coast Guard saved almost 11,000 people by going into winds the media would not go into, “unless it’s a really good story.”
“It’s just wrong and petty,” Stelter concluded.
