Former Republican National Committee Chairman Marc Racicot wants to see Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson on the presidential debate stage.
Racicot, RNC chairman from 2001-03 and the chairman of President Bush’s 2004 re-election effort, noted that he served as governor in Montana while Johnson governed New Mexico.
“I have not made up my mind about who I will vote for or if I will vote. I certainly will not vote for Trump or Clinton,” Racicot said in a statement shared by the Johnson campaign. “I would like to hear from Gary Johnson before I make my final decision. Before I decide if I am voting or not, which would be a sad state of affairs.”
Racicot joins a growing list of former Republican governors urging Johnson to be added to the debate stage, including 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who is hosting Johnson at Purdue University on Tuesday, has also reportedly called for Johnson’s addition to the debate stage.
Johnson has not yet met the polling threshold required by the Commission on Presidential Debates to be included onstage. The first debate is scheduled for Sept. 26 in New York.
