Montgomery Ride On service to hold forum on bus routes

Montgomery County residents are invited to attend a public forum Aug. 22 to discuss proposed changes to three Ride On bus routes.

The transit service plans to extend Route 45 to the Fallsgrove Transit Center on weekdays and Saturdays, connecting the Fallsgrove housing and retail development with the Rockville Town Center. Located in northwest Rockville, the development has grown rapidly since it opened in 2002.

“There will be more and more transportation coming to Fallsgrove because it’s going to be a busier place,” said Neil Greenberger, public information manager for the city of Rockville.

Proposed changes to Route 45 also include reducing midday service to the Rockville Senior Center on weekdays and suspending Saturday trips to the center altogether. The changes are designed to better coincide with center activities.

“There are some activities on weekends, but it’s mostly a Monday through Friday center,” Greenberger said.

Route 66 will replace Route 45 in serving the Dundee/Wootton Parkway with buses running to and from the Shady Grove Metro station during rush hour.

The forum also will address whether to reduce Saturday frequency on Route 41 from 20 to 30 minutes due to insufficient demand. Ride On officials evaluate bus routes every quarter, consulting riders when they make significant changes. The current proposed changes would take effect in October.
