Occupation not missed

Re: “Occupiers seek new direction after McPherson raid,” Feb. 7

Certainly the Occupy movement had every opportunity in the first few days of their sit-in to make their point. Extension of that time was a blight on the community with McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza turned into garbage dumps. There was no reason to prolong the occupation other than to satisfy the egos of those involved. Unfortunately the winter has been relatively mild allowing this band of protesters the ability to stay in relative comfort. Enough was enough, begone.

Sacrifice makes sense

Re: “D.C. Council questions budget cuts amid $240 million surplus,” Feb. 7

It is ironic how the council is questioning the budget cuts even though there is a $240 million surplus. Yet, according to Newsmakers, District leaders visited New York last week in hopes of persuading credit rating agencies to remove the “negative outlook” label for the city’s financial future.

I do not understand why it is unreasonable to tap District taxpayers and employees to cover predicted revenue shortfalls, which resulted in a surplus. While the state of Virginia does the same thing even though they have an excellent credit rating and their employees do not mind making the sacrifice, so their state can continue to maintain an excellent credit rating.

Super failure

Re: “Obama forms super-PAC he once decried,” Feb. 8

Here are just some of the reasons Obama should not be and must not be re-elected. While Americans struggle to survive in this bleak economy, Obama is deliberately bringing the economy to its knees. His actions have driven gas prices to the limit. Obama is supporting amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.

He is supporting government takeover of private industry and is trying to punish businesses that create jobs. Obama has stuffed the courts with liberal judges and socialist ideologists, and he is trying to create new undue gun-control measures. Obama is anti-Israel and sides with the Palestinians and Hamas. Just take a look at all the damage Obama has inflicted on Americans the last two years and start realizing his re-election would be a disaster for us.
