Just because Marty Eisenstadt fooled MSNBC, Fox News, the New Republic and the L.A. Times, don’t think he’s backed down a little. The fictional pundit and former John McCain campaign staffer created by producers Dan Mirvish and Eitan Gorlin may come to our city soon to film a sur-reality show a la “Colbert on the Loose.”
Gorlin and Mirvish produced a short pilot with Joel Westbrook and Ari Pinchot of Interface Media Group to pitch to the likes of Showtime, HBO and Comedy Central. The pitch reel, posted to YouTube, is a compilation of prior footage of Eisenstadt on the fictionalized Iraqi TV interview and BBC documentary “The Last Republican,” along with clips from their book tour (including that shot with Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.) and some new footage.
Since the duo last partied with real pundits at Joe Lockhart’s home for the “I am Martin Eisenstadt: One Man’s (Wildly Inappropriate) Adventures With the Last Republicans” book party, they got a new representative — book-to-film agent Josie Freedman of International Creative Management, who also represents Maureen Dowd and Christopher Buckley.
The pair sees big things with the new partnership.
“The interesting thing is that there’s also parallel interest in a feature film version from some big production companies out here,” Mirvish told Yeas & Nays. “So we’ll see what happens first.”
