President Trump claimed Wednesday special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is directing witnesses in the Russian collusion investigation to lie.
“While the disgusting Fake News is doing everything within their power not to report it that way, at least 3 major players are intimating that the Angry Mueller Gang of Dems is viciously telling witnesses to lie about facts & they will get relief,” Trump posted to Twitter Wednesday morning. “This is our Joseph McCarthy Era!”

Trump did not say who the three individuals are and offered no other other evidence for his claims.
Mueller’s team has remained steadfastly quiet through Trump’s repeated bromides. The special counsel’s office has brought charges against several figures in Trump’s orbit and Russian elements since taking over the investigation in May 2017.
Jerome Corsi, a right-wing author who spoke with the special counsel, said Mueller’s team told him he “willfully lied on an amended statement,” which he disputes.
“They want me to say I willfully lied,” Corsi said. “I did not intentionally lie to the special counsel. I’m not going to agree that I lied. I did not. I will not lie to save my life. I’d rather sit in prison and rot for as long as these thugs want me to.”
Longtime Trump associate Roger Stone said that Corsi was being “harassed” by the special counsel after the author claimed Monday he would not enter a plea agreement. Trump’s ally said that Corsi didn’t take the deal because he refused to agree to a “false narrative.”
Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani also told the Washington Examiner Tuesday that the special counsel is so driven by “their zeal to get the president” that they are plotting to push witnesses in the Russia investigation to lie.
Giuliani said a Tuesday Guardian report that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort met with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London — which both deny — is “all part of a plan to pressure Manafort to lie.”
