When Wanda Young moved into her three-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in Columbia in 1994, lots of features captured here eye. First, the place is huge, with a large triple-pane sliding glass door in the living room that allows in plenty of natural light.
Then there was its location, right off Route 175, a few traffic lights from I-95. But Young was ultimately sold by the fact that it’s on the third floor — the top level — of the Treover Condominium building in the Village of Long Reach.
“Unfortunately, I had someone break into my into my [previous] house, so I like the safety of it,” she said of her condo. “It’s a very quiet neighborhood. We never had any problems.”
Young lived in the condo for seven years, then rented it out for the next seven. Now, she’s selling it at auction to the highest bidder above $125,000.
“I think it is a great opportunity to buy three-bedroom, two-bath condo unit at a very affordable price, with potential mortgage payments less than what someone would pay for a rental in the area,” said Andy Billig, of A.J. Billig and Co. Auctioneers. “The unit is in really good condition. It would also be a great investment for an investor who wants to hold the unit for several years until the market rebounds. You should be able to buy the unit, rent it, and still cover all the carrying costs.”
That’s what Young did for most of this decade. Her renters even covered the condo fees of $392 per month.
“We never even had to advertise it,” she said.
The 1,280-square-foot unit features an entry foyer with hardwood floor that leads to the bright living room. The kitchen has oak cabinetry, a ceramic tile flooring, Whirlpool dishwasher, Kenmore gas range/oven, and Frigidaire refrigerator/freezer.
The master bedroom has a ceramic tile bathroom, and there are two other bedrooms and a hall bathroom — a rarity for a condo.
“It’s a great investment opportunity, and a great place,” Young said.
