Piers Morgan: Trump believes in ‘getting in the room’ with Putin

President Trump revealed Saturday that he believes it’s important to get in a room with even the most unlikely adversaries in the effort of getting a deal done.

“[Trump] believes in just getting in the room, even with people you can’t stomach, and trying to do a deal, he’s a business guy at his core,” said Piers Morgan, “Good Morning Britain” host and longtime friend of Trump, on CNN.

Morgan cored a 30-minute interview with Trump on Air Force One ahead of the first bilateral meeting between the president and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Trump has declined several times to comment on whether Putin is a friend or enemy, but did concede that he is a “competitor.”

In the interview with Morgan, Trump indicated that although he had his doubts about reaching a successful trade deal with Britain after they leave the European Union, it appears that Prime Minister Theresa May was able to persuade him otherwise.

Controversy ensued over the meetings between Trump and May last week after the Sun interview emerged where Trump said a trade deal was dead between the U.S. and Britain due to Brexit.

Also in the interview he said he advised May on how to do Brexit properly, and claimed “she wrecked it.”
