Eric Swalwell: Republicans hoped Peter Strzok’s testimony would undermine Russia investigation

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said Friday that Republican lawmakers at Thursday’s intelligence committee hearing were not there to listen to FBI agents Peter Strzok’s testimony, and were only interested in undermining special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

“The Republicans didn’t show up yesterday to hear the answers, they wanted to use the questions to undermine Bob Mueller’s investigation,” Swalwell told MSNBC.

However, the Democratic representative did concede that he did not approve of the way Strzok texted about the investigation, which exhibited his bias against President Trump.

“I don’t like that he was talking that way because we want FBI agents to be sort of above the politics and not even have the perception of impropriety,” Swalwell said. “But, there was no evidence, and I sought to demonstrate, that there were other agents working on this case independent of Mr. Strzok.”
