SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Retired public employees could see their yearly cost-of-living adjustments shrink under a plan recommended to New Mexico lawmakers Friday that would shore up the long-term finances of a pension plan for more than 50,000 workers.

Other proposals endorsed by the governing board of the Public Employees Retirement Association will require government workers and taxpayers to pay more into the pension fund and force new governmental hires to worker longer before qualifying for retirement benefits.
