President Joe Biden has overseen several crises, as his incompetence stretches from financial issues to foreign policy. The southern border has not been immune to these disasters. Voters once again recognize that as the midterm elections draw closer.
According to Gallup, 58% of adults are dissatisfied with the current level of immigration. The majority of those dissatisfied people want the level of immigration decreased. Most notably, 55% of independents disapprove of the current level of immigration. That’s the highest since 2016, when both independents and those who prioritized immigration as a voting issue backed Donald Trump in the presidential election.
Independents have jumped from 19% to 32% in terms of wanting a decrease in immigration. Meanwhile, the Biden administration is deporting a “historically low” average of 100 illegal immigrants a day, with up to 7,000 a day flocking across the southern border.
Border encounters under Biden have risen dramatically. Last December saw 178,840 encounters, an increase of over 100,000 from the same time a year before. The calendar year total of over 1.9 million last year is expected to be dwarfed this year, with border experts projecting over 2.1 million encounters in 2022.
Biden’s handling of the border has been so poor he has seen double-digit drops in confidence from Democrats, independents, and Republicans on immigration. Biden has practically ignored the border entirely since becoming president, handing off the problem to his equally incompetent vice president and only revisiting it to smear border patrol agents for daring to try and enforce the immigration laws his administration has openly flouted.
The border will be yet another failure that Biden and the Democratic Party will put before voters in November. With attitudes returning to the same 2016-levels that helped elect Trump, it’s yet another sign that Democrats face a wipeout loss on Election Day.
