Cassidy Hutchinson sued by Tony Bobulinski in $10 million defamation suit

Tony Bobulinski, a former business partner of Hunter Biden, filed a lawsuit against former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson alleging she defamed him.

Bobulinski’s lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on Monday alleges that Hutchinson mischaracterized a meeting between himself and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, “portraying it to be unethical and, possibly, illegal.” He cites Hutchinson’s 2023 book Enough as where he was defamed.

“Ms. Hutchinson wrote about the true facts, that Mr. Bobulinski had a meeting with Mr. Meadows during a Trump campaign rally, however, she interposed commentary that gave a defamatory impression,” the lawsuit said.

In the filing, Bobulinski discusses several excerpts from the book in which Hutchinson alleges she had a “weird feeling that we were in danger” when Meadows decided to privately meet with Bobulinski. Bobulinski claims the meeting was “an exchange of pleasantries” and that neither Biden nor politics were discussed.

He also denied a claim by Hutchinson that Meadows had given “what appeared to be a folded sheet of paper or a small envelope” and stated that he answered accordingly before the House Oversight Committee last month.

The lawsuit alleges individual counts of defamation, defamation by implication, and false light invasion of privacy. He seeks damages of no less than $10 million.

“The defamatory implication has directly and proximately caused Mr. Bobulinski to suffer significant damages, including direct damages, damages to his reputation, humiliation, embarrassment, mental anguish, anxiety, and fear for his safety and the safety of his family members, all of which are ongoing in nature and will be suffered in the future,” the lawsuit said. “Additionally, Defendant’s false light has caused Mr. Bobulinski to lose business opportunities. These damages were foreseeable to Defendant.”

Hutchinson made headlines in 2022 when she offered testimony before the House Jan. 6 committee, which was investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Her testimony included several claims that have been disputed by parties involved, including an allegation that former President Donald Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential limousine.

Her 2023 book also made several claims, including that Rudy Giuliani had groped her on Jan. 6, 2021, along with the claims about the Meadows-Bobulinski meeting.

Bobulinski rose to prominence ahead of the 2020 election when he made claims about now-President Joe Biden’s ties to Hunter Biden’s business dealings, of which Bobulinski was involved. He conducted a closed-door interview with members of Congress last month as part of an impeachment inquiry into Biden.
