Ryan: Trump ‘understands there’s a Constitution’

House Speaker Paul Ryan revealed he has talked with President-elect Donald Trump about the importance of the Constitution.

“I think he understands there’s a Constitution,” Ryan said on “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday.

When host Scott Pelley asked the Republican leader if he has told Trump that “Congress is going to have a say” if the president elect abuses his powers, Ryan said they’ve talked about it “extensively.”

“We’ve talked about the Constitution, Article I on the Constitution, the separation of powers. He feels very strongly, actually, that, under President Obama’s watch, he stripped a lot of power away from the Constitution, away from the Legislative Branch of government,” Ryan said. “And we want to reset the balance of power, so that people and the Constitution are rightfully restored.”
