CDC monitoring lab tech for possible Ebola exposure

A lab technician in Atlanta is being monitored for possible exposure to Ebola.

The person, working a secure laboratory, may have come into contact with a small amount of the live virus during an experiment, CDC spokeswoman Barbara Reynolds said in a statement Wednesday.

The exposure is under internal investigation by the CDC, and though additional employees have been notified about the possible exposure, none have required monitoring.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Burwell is aware of the potential exposure, according to the Associated Press.

DCD Director Tom Friedan said he’s troubled by situation.

There have been four cases of Ebola in the U.S., all but one fully recovered.
