Melania Trump quips that she ‘doesn’t always agree with the way’ President Trump communicates on Twitter

First lady Melania Trump light-heartedly addressed a concern shared by those ambivalent on voting for President Trump — his tweets.

The first lady spoke to supporters of the president at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, pitching a positive case for the president’s method of communicating with voters on Twitter. However, she noted that she doesn’t “always agree” with his style.

“For the first time history, the citizens of this country get to hear directly and instantly from their president every single day through social media,” Melania said. “I do not always agree with the way he says things. But it is important to him that he speaks directly to the people he serves.”

At the Republican National Convention this summer, Melania spoke on her husband’s forthright communication style, arguing it shows transparency and authenticity. “We all know Donald Trump makes no secrets about how he feels about things,” she said, prompting a smattering of laughter. “Total honesty is what we as citizens deserve from our president. Whether you like it or not, you always know what he’s thinking. And that’s because he’s an authentic person who loves this country and its people.”

Melania, who contracted the coronavirus earlier this month, spoke at length on the administration’s approach to the pandemic, advocating for opening up the economy. “We do not close down or hide in fear, we get to work to find real and lasting solutions,” she said. “It’s what sets us apart from any country in the world.”

“The Democrats have chosen to put their own agendas ahead of the American people’s well-being. Instead, they attempt to create a divide, a divide on something that should be nonpartisan and noncontroversial,” she continued, defending the administration’s development of a coronavirus vaccine.
