NEW BOSS: Johnson & Johnson is hiring Bayer CropScience head Sandra E. Peterson for a new post, overseeing the troubled consumer health and manufacturing operations, plus information technology. She starts Dec. 1.
THE GOAL: New CEO Alex Gorsky wants Peterson to tackle key priorities — business building and fixing manufacturing quality problems, particularly in the consumer health business. They’ve led to dozens of product recalls, lost sales and costly factory upgrades.
A FIRST: J&J rarely hires outsiders for senior executive positions. This is the first time it’s done so for someone who’ll be on the executive committee that manages J&J.
