Gas prices across the nation dropped on Friday, with the national average price for regular gas falling to $3.099 per gallon. After several days of increases at the pumps, Friday’s price was a larger than 2-cent decrease from a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.122.
Overall, gas prices have trended downward in recent weeks and months. A month ago, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.181, and a year ago, it was $3.405. The price of gas was an important topic in the country’s political discourse as President Joe Biden was burdened with high gas prices during most of his term. Earlier this year, gas prices began to fall. Yet despite this string of decreases at the pumps, gas prices remain higher today than during the last months and days of President-elect Donald Trump’s first term.
