Absentee ballots were being counted at local election boards all over Maryland Thursday, but most had not finished the process by the end of the day, particularly in the close context for the 1st Congressional District.
“I don’t believe we’re gong to finish this by any time tonight,” said Donna Duncan, director of the election management division of the Maryland Board of Elections.
By 4 p.m. Thursday, only one jurisdiction in the 1st District, Somerset County, had posted its absentee ballots, giving Democrat Frank Kratovil a net gain of 117 votes. He now leads Republican Andy Harris by 1,033 votes districtwide.
Next week, the boards will count the provisional ballots and the absentee ballots from the military and overseas.
