Trump revives ‘covfefe’ in return to Truth Social

Former President Donald Trump posted for the first time in more than two months on Truth Social and in so doing referenced one of his most famous tweets.

The short message, posted Thursday along with a photo of himself using a phone at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, signals a commitment to his nascent platform, even as some suspect he might be invited back to Twitter with Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover.

“I’M BACK! #COVFEFE” Trump said.

The hashtag is a throwback to his 2017 tweet that captured the imagination of the internet. Presumed to be a typo, Trump and his team leaned into the fascination that followed, even with the tweet getting deleted. “Who can figure out the true meaning of ‘covfefe’ ??? Enjoy!” Trump said in a later tweet. “The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant,” then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer said to reporters.

The post is only the second Trump has made on the platform since its launch in February, which the former president has touted as an alternative to combat the censorship on other social media platforms.

TRUMP SAYS HE WON’T RETURN TO TWITTER

Days ago, Trump said he would not return to Twitter — even should Musk’s purchase hold and the Tesla CEO move to undo the permanent suspension that came shortly after the Capitol riot.

“I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News on Monday. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it, and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
