Pedestrian killed on N.Y. Ave. A man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a semi-truck on the 300 block of New York Avenue Northeast. Witnesses saw the man either faint or trip, then fall in front of the truck at approximately 1 p.m., according to D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Pete Piringer. Rescue officials responded to the scene, where the man was found unconscious in the street. The man, still unidentified, was believed to be in his mid-50s. D.C. police are still investigating the incident.

Conviction for Woodbridge man A Woodbridge man was sentenced to 21 years in prison for abducting a woman by wrapping a towel around her head, and then attempting to sexually assault her. Leon Lamont Lynch, 39, attacked a 23-year-old woman in an Arlington apartment building on June 2, 2008, and forced her into a stairwell in the building. The woman’s boyfriend heard her struggle in the nearby staircase and broke up the assault. The boyfriend was also assaulted by Lynch before Lynch fled the building. A team of K-9 units and a Fairfax County police helicopter found him later that day. Lynch was later sentenced in Arlington County Circuit Court for abduction with intent to defile.
