Dave Brat: The Senate is ’embarrassing’ and Mitch McConnell is in trouble

Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., said Wednesday that Alabama’s runoff election shows that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is in trouble.

McConnell on Tuesday was forced to pull a vote on legislation to reform federal healthcare policy, and then watched as voters in Alabama voted for Judge Roy Moore to take Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ seat in the Senate. Moore was not the pick of the GOP establishment, and Brat said voters are unhappy with the Senate and McConnell’s leadership there.

“On the Senate side, I think, yeah, the leadership over there is in for some trouble,” Brat said on C-SPAN.

“They couldn’t even get, right after they voted on it 50 times over seven years … and they couldn’t get a vote through on any form of Obamacare repeal,” he said.

“I mean, they had a skinny bill that was more like a Madison Avenue marketing tagline,” Brat added. “What is a skinny bill? It’s one fifth of the economy. And they couldn’t even get a tagline passed.”

“It’s embarrassing,” Brat said.

President Trump preferred Sen. Luther Strange over Moore, and campaigned for Strange.

After Moore’s victory Tuesday night, Trump complimented Moore and said he wants him to win in the December election against the Democratic nominee, Doug Jones.
