Lindsey Graham warns Democrats to ‘watch out’ for their own nominees if Kavanaugh goes down

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., issued a warning to Senate Democrats Thursday for if Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination fails: Watch your back.

Graham told reporters during a break in the hearing for Christine Blasey Ford that Democrats “better watch out” in the future when then nominate individuals to important posts, claiming that they have established a “new standard” for nominees.

Graham alleged that Democrats intentionally withheld Ford’s accusations until late in the confirmation process in order to delay the final vote and try to keep the Supreme Court seat open until they win back the Senate majority. “They’re publicly saying that,” he said. “I don’t want to reward that kind of behavior.”

“I think we’ve been very fair,” Graham said. “And to my Republican colleagues: If you can ignore everything in this record looking at an allegations that’s 35-years-old, that’s uncertain in time, place, date and no cooperation. If that’s enough for you, then God help us all as Republicans because it happens to us – it never happens to them.

“[L]et me tell all my Democratic friends: If this is the new norm, you better watch out for your own nominees,” Graham said.

Graham has been a staunch supporter of Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Blasey Ford spent the better part of four hours testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, with Kavanaugh slated to testify afterwards.
