The ‘master ICE tracker’ is the Democrats’ most reckless move yet

Democrats have ratcheted up their resistance to the Trump administration‘s deportation efforts. On Tuesday, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) proudly announced that Democrats on the House Oversight Committee will launch a “master ICE tracker” on their website to monitor the activities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers nationwide.

With Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass at his side, Garcia said, “The Oversight Committee will be launching on their website a master ICE tracker where we can. We’re going to be essentially tracking every single instance that we can verify that the community will send, be able to send us information. It’ll all be available in one central place.”

That’s right. Democratic lawmakers, who once swore an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, are actively planning to dox federal officials who are tasked with enforcing U.S. immigration law and implementing the Trump administration’s deportation efforts.

FEDERAL AGENTS DEPLOY TO SAN FRANCISCO AREA IN LATEST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN

Garcia and his colleagues are crossing a very dangerous line with this proposal. First, considering that attacks against ICE officers have surged by 1,000% since President Donald Trump took office, this initiative is going to get federal officials killed.

Just last month, a sniper targeting federal law enforcement officers opened fire at the ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. Although he was aiming for ICE officers, he wound up killing two detainees before turning his gun on himself. Investigators recovered an unfired bullet inscribed with the words “ANTI-ICE” at the scene.

Mexican cartels have placed bounties on the heads of ICE and Customs and Border Protection officials. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the amounts range from “$2,000 for gathering intelligence or doxxing agents” to “$50,000 for the assassination of high-ranking officials.”

Second, although I’m not a lawyer, does one really need a law degree to recognize that this plan likely violates 18 U.S. Code § 372  (Conspiracy to impede or injure an officer)?

It says, “If two or more persons in any State, Territory, Possession, or District conspire to prevent, by force, intimidation, or threat, any person from accepting or holding any office, trust, or place of confidence under the United States, or from discharging any duties thereof, or to induce by like means any officer of the United States to leave the place, where his duties as an officer are required to be performed, or to injure him in his person or property on account of his lawful discharge of the duties of his office, or while engaged in the lawful discharge thereof, or to injure his property so as to molest, interrupt, hinder, or impede him in the discharge of his official duties, each of such persons shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six years, or both.”

If House Democrats go forward with this plan, the Department of Justice must act.

It’s worth noting that more than 3 million illegal immigrants were deported during the Obama administration. While former President Barack Obama was dubbed the “deporter-in-chief” by his critics, I don’t recall seeing anything remotely resembling the level of resistance we’re witnessing today.

In a recent op-ed, the Issues & Insights editorial board presented readers with a pop quiz. It listed eight excerpts from media reports about ICE activities and asked readers to identify which administration each occurred under. The list included the following:

The Marshall Project looked at more than 300,000 deportations and, despite administration claims that ICE was focusing on “the worst of the worst,” it found that about 60% were immigrants with no criminal conviction or whose only crime was immigration-related. Fewer than 20% had possibly violent convictions, such as assault, DUI, or weapons offenses.

As it turned out, each one occurred during the Obama administration.

The editors noted, “Deportation is a dirty business. It always has been. Always will be. Which is why the best solution is to keep illegals from getting into the country in the first place.”

They concluded, “Trump — unlike any of his predecessors — is doing both. And for that, he should be commended, not condemned.”

Ever since Trump’s arrival in Washington, D.C., “resistance” has been the Democrats’ only strategy. Consumed by their hatred of Trump, the party has abandoned all pretense of trying to improve the lives of those they were actually elected to serve — their legal constituents.

Three weeks ago, Democrats shut down the federal government because the Trump administration rightly refused to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants or to continue COVID-19-era health insurance subsidies for U.S. citizens, some with incomes of $500,000.

The Democrats’ much-ballyhooed “No Kings” protests last weekend turned out to be more fizzle than fireworks — even as an estimated 7 million people took to the streets. As details of the day rolled in, they painted an unflattering portrait of a political party in disarray, struggling to force a phony message upon an electorate that’s growing increasingly skeptical of them.

It turned out that a few of the attendees interviewed by the media had no real understanding of what precisely they were protesting or why they were there.

One young participant told a reporter, “Trump’s a b*tch.” When asked to elaborate, he said, “I don’t know. We don’t like him. That’s the word around here.”

When asked if there was any particular reason why he didn’t like Trump, the protester replied, “No clue at all. I’m just going with [what] everybody else is saying.”

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ARGUES NO TIME-LIMIT ON POWER TO DEPLOY NATIONAL GUARD

And now, for an encore, Democrats on the Oversight Committee have unveiled their “master ICE tracker” — a proposal that could literally get federal agents killed.

With the party’s approval ratings sinking and most Americans supporting Trump’s deportation efforts, clinging to the far left borders on political suicide. At a time when Democrats should be tacking toward the center, they’re doubling down on extremism — and this latest gambit could prove deadly.
