Stephen Colbert robs Rep. Dan Kildee at knifepoint

Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) probably didn’t expect to be robbed at knifepoint by Stephen Colbert this week. But on Tuesday night’s episode of ‘The Colbert Report,’ that’s exactly what happened.

As part of his ongoing series ‘Better Know a District,’ Colbert sat down with Kildee to talk about Michigan’s 5th District. The host asked Kildee, who is a self-proclaimed supporter of Second Amendment rights, if he was carrying a gun. Upon learning that he wasn’t, Colbert then proceeded to whip out a knife and ask the freshman Congressman for his wallet.

“Congressman, gimme your wallet,” Colbert said.

“No, that’s — you can’t have my wallet,” the Democrat answered.

“I’ve got a knife,” Colbert responded.

“I see that, ” Kildee said, seemingly unfazed.

“Does this not mean anything to you?” Colbert asked, flipping the knife around his head. “This is never a good sign when this happens. See this? All right? Come on, man. Gimme your wallet, Congressman No-Gun.”

The two men also ‘did some sugar’ during the interview, since Kildee’s district is one of the nation’s leading producers of sugar beets. And perhaps Kildee should have expected Colbert’s devious antics. Earlier in the segment — upon receiving an invitation to move to Michigan — the host warned the Democrat that he wouldn’t be able to vote because he’s a felon.
