A suspect has been arrested after a high school in Rockville, Maryland, was locked down when a student was found seriously wounded in a bathroom Friday afternoon.
The Montgomery County Police Department said a male student was shot on campus at Magruder High School and confirmed that a suspect was in custody. MCPD said in a press conference Friday night that both the suspect and victim are students at the school, but it is unclear what the incident was about or how it started.
Police said the suspect was apprehended within the school walls. Upon apprehending him, authorities said they did not find a gun on the suspect but did find one nearby. Police told reporters they do not know how the gun managed to get into the school but are looking through the school’s surveillance footage to get more answers.
MCPD told the press at the news conference that authorities have not yet spoken to the suspect’s parents.
Law enforcement officials told the Washington Examiner that the seriously injured student was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The county’s SWAT team arrived at the school at roughly 3 p.m., clearing the building while wearing full tactical gear and armed with long guns, according to ABC 7.
UPDATE: The Montgomery County SWAT Team is now at Magruder High School.
SWAT members are wearing full tactical gear, armed with long guns and marching into the school.
It’s unclear if the suspect is still on school property or not.

The school said it was coordinating with the police over the matter and would provide more information as it becomes available.

Montgomery County Public Schools also stated on social media that it was aware of the situation at Magruder and is working with the police.
