Officer tackles robber at CVS

A police officer tackled a man who tried to rob a Great Falls drugstore at knifepoint, Fairfax County police said. Police said Thursday that Amith Pinto, 21, of the 9800 block of Sunnybrook Drive, entered the CVS located at 9871 Georgetown Pike, displayed a knife and demanded that employees hand over medications.

A police officer who responded to the robbery tackled Pinto from behind, police said. No one was injured in the incident.

The robbery happened Monday at about 9:45 p.m., police said.

Pinto has been charged with robbery and wearing a mask in commission of a robbery.

Fairfax County police would not release the officer’s name without his permission.
