Iran foreign minister slams Trump’s travel ban after Iranian film wins Oscar

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised the cast and crew of Iranian film “The Salesmen” for winning an Oscar for best foreign film Sunday evening, while also knocking President Trump’s travel ban.

“Proud of cast & crew of ‘The Salesman’ for Oscar & stance against #MuslimBan. Iranians have represented culture & civilization for millennia,” tweeted Zarif.

Iranian American scientist Anousheh Ansari accepted the award on behalf of the film’s director, Asghar Farhadi, who is boycotting the awards show ceremony to protest the president’s executive order that temporarily barred immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran.

Critics of the travel ban have called it a “Muslim ban” — a label the Trump administration has vociferously pushed back against.
