Gingrich Gives Environment the Contract Treatment

former speaker — takes on a familiar formula, albeit with a new topic.

According to marketing materials, the book, titled “A Contract with the Earth,” promises a 10-point contract, a la the Contract with America that Gingrich used to vault Republicans into office in 1994. His co-author is Terry Maple, president and CEO of the Palm Beach Zoo.

“Why a contract?” asks Gingrich in a series of “illustrative bullet points” that accompanied the galleys of the book. “A contract symbolizes a binding agreement and a serious long-term commitment, with principles and goals set and agreed upon.”
