Huffington Post columnist Alicia Menendez told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd that if Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett loses against Gov. Scott Walker tonight in the Wisconsin recall college students will be to blame.

“I think you have young voters who are scattering to the four winds is the worst time of the year to have an election where you want students to show up at the polls,” Menendez said. “I think their absence will be sorely felt tonight.”

Menendez’s analysis ignores the widely reported disarray in the Democratic ranks that was even noted by fellow MSNBC talking head Ed Schultz who chastised the Democratic National Committee for its handling of the Wisconsin race.

And the public-sector unions responsible for securing the 1 million signatures to get the recall have been lukewarm about Barrett because of his support for curtailing their power.
