Volunteers planning to clean the Potomac River on Saturday might not be able to pick up as much trash as they had hoped if the federal government shutdowns at midnight.
Becky Horner, a coordinator with the Alice Ferguson Foundation which has organized a Saturday cleanup across the region, said a shutdown would stop volunteers from being able to clean up national parks. Those parks wouldn’t be open.
She said 84 of 420 clean up sites across the region would be affected by a shutdown.
