US launches new round of Iran strikes as blockade takes effect

Published Updated

The U.S. military launched more strikes against Iran on Tuesday, just before reinstating its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Central Command said the new round of airstrikes began at 3 p.m. Eastern ahead of the blockade, which took effect an hour later, and ended at 10 p.m. CENTCOM said the strikes targeted “dozens” of Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems to “further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian crews,” boasting a force of “more than 20 U.S. Navy warships and hundreds of military aircraft” operating in the region.
