Democrats give Senate GOP new midterm ammo in opposing federal voter ID

Senate Republicans may not be able to reach a consensus on their own SAVE America Act, but they now have fresh scrutiny against Democratic candidates for opposing widely supported federal photo ID requirements to vote.

A trimmed-down voter ID proposal from Republicans failed to attract any Democratic support and overcome a Senate filibuster last week, adding to the list of items GOP operatives plan to use against Democrats in the remaining months of the 2026 midterm cycle.
